State Park in Texas – Caprock Canyons
Caprock Canyons State Park is located about 100 miles southeast of Amarillo, Texas and 6 miles north of the small town of Quitaque, Texas
The park has only one camping area for RV's called Honey Flat. It has 35 campsites with 50 & 30 amp electric and water hookups. The pad sites, in most of the sites, are long enough to fit a 40 ft RV and are pretty level and flat.
The sites are also spacious that provide a little privacy and the trees provide pretty good shade.
There are three other camping areas which include a two tent camping areas and one horse camping area.
We love to camp at Caprock Canyons State Park but with only 35 RV sites available. They book up really fast so make your reservations far in advance. We think the park should make another RV campground. They definitely have plenty of room
Things to Do
There are plenty of hiking and biking trails in this park to keep you busy each day. Be sure to bring plenty of water as the canyon gets really hot during the summer months. You can also hike the Caprock Canyon Trailway as well.
If you like to kayak, Lake Theo is a small lake where you can kayak and fish. We enjoyed our kayaking several times during our stay and loved every minute of it.
All in all, we love Caprock Canyons State Park. For us it is only about an hour and a half from home. The camping is good in this park and there is lots to do. When you are out hiking and biking, or even when you are at your campsite, be on the lookout for rattle snakes. The buffalo that roam the area also sometimes wander into the campsites. Be on the lookout for them also and give them plenty of space.
